Web 2.0

I see Web 2.0 as a way to incorporate technology into your classroom without having to come up with something on your own. There are so many helpful tools out there that we as teachers should be taking advantage of. Web 2.0 also allows you to communicate with others about teaching or just life in general.

Some reasons and ways to utilize Web 2.0 in the classroom is it can allow a great way to communicate with parents. I liked Wix.com, you can make a website for free. It thought this would be a great way to keep parents informed of what their child is doing at school. These tools also allow your students to get hands on experience with the internet and technology.

Digital Citzenship

After listening to the podcast about digital citizenship it made me realize how important it is for schools to teach kids how to use technology appropriately. I liked to hear what Katie's school is doing with the internet safety curriculum. It is never to early to start to get students to talk about how to use these tools the right way. I know many of my students are exposed to technology at home rather than at school, but may never have been taught how to use them appropriately.

I think it is important to get students to think before they act. This is an important skill we need to be teaching our students, which goes along with character counts. If we are teaching good character values this should translate with anything we are doing. Students do need to be reminded of this when they are using technology as well.

Virtual Field Trip

I spent a lot of my time last week to complete this assignment since my husband and I were going on vacation. I thought it was due on Sat. June 20 and I wouldn't be around to complete it by the due date.
I had a hard time deciding on where to take them. In 2nd grade we focus some time on studying bees, so I thought it would be fun to take them on a bee field trip. There wasn't a place to take them to explore bees over the internet. There was a lot of helpful information that I found that I have bookmarked at delicous.
I ended up taking my students on a trip to the San Diego Zoo. I think my students will enjoy the journey through the zoo and the different habitats we will be studying.

I get a lot of ideas from this website. It is one of my favorites.

Multimedia creation

I spent some time looking over the multimedia section and found that Ustream and Slideshare could be helpful in my classroom. Ustream had some videos that would be great for my visual learners and Slideshare had a lot of useful information that I could pull from.

Video/Article

The videos and article opened my eyes to how much technology impacts our students. I am glad I have kept up on the new technologies that keep developing. But as I continue to complete assignments for this class I find that I am a little behind. For example, I am struggling with being able to post an image on my blog. I will keep trying until I get it:)

First week

I am a little behind on my reflections. I will try to get caught up:) After reading the requirements for this class, it got me really excited to learn new things about technology. This next school year I want to work really hard to implement more technology into my classroom.
